Two-Michelin-starred A.Wong set for temporary relocation

Two-Michelin-starred A.Wong will temporarily relocate from Pimlico to Mandarin Oriental Mayfair this summer, while the restaurant undergoes a full renovation and refurbishment.

Chef Andrew Wong and his full team will move the acclaimed restaurant to the hotel on Hanover Square for a six-week seasonal residency, opening on Tuesday, August 18.

The residency will be available for dinner only and will bring Andrew’s Collections of China menus, including the regular and vegetarian versions, to Mayfair.

A.Wong will continue to serve lunch and dinner at its original Pimlico site until final evening service on Saturday, August 1, before the temporary move takes place.

The Mayfair residency will run until final service on Saturday, September 26, with A.Wong expected to reopen in Pimlico shortly after.

A.Wong moves to Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

The temporary restaurant will be discreetly located within the private dining spaces adjacent to Mandarin Oriental Mayfair’s Atrium Restaurant.

Andrew and his team will be on hand throughout the residency, ensuring continuity for guests while the Wilton Road restaurant is refreshed.

The move is a notable one for London’s fine dining scene, taking one of the capital’s most celebrated restaurants from its long-standing home between Victoria and Pimlico into the heart of Mayfair for a limited summer run.

A.Wong is the home of Andrew’s multi-award-winning cuisine and currently holds two Michelin stars.

The restaurant sits in the same Wilton Road site once operated by Andrew’s parents for almost 30 years, with Andrew taking the helm in 2012.

Since then, he has developed a highly personal style of cooking, combining traditional dishes passed down through generations with extensive research into ancient Chinese recipes, techniques and regional food culture.

Using selected Chinese and British produce, A.Wong’s food is built around China’s gastronomic heritage and the many flavours found across its regions and borders.

Collections of China in Mayfair

The residency will focus on Andrew’s Collections of China menus, which have become central to A.Wong’s identity.

Rather than presenting Chinese cooking through a single regional lens, the menus explore the depth and breadth of China’s food culture through contemporary and artistic interpretations.

For chefs, the move is particularly interesting because it offers a rare example of a two-Michelin-starred restaurant temporarily transplanting its full team and signature experience into a hotel setting, rather than creating a separate pop-up or simplified offshoot.

The decision also keeps A.Wong trading through the refurbishment period, while giving regulars and new guests a chance to experience the restaurant in a very different London neighbourhood.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair’s changing restaurant scene

The A.Wong residency also comes during a period of movement around Mandarin Oriental Mayfair’s food and beverage offer.

Earlier this year, Jihun Kim left Somssi, just weeks after the Korean restaurant won its first Michelin star.

Somssi, located inside Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, had opened in 2025 with Jihun at the helm, after the departure of Akira Back from the hotel, and quickly became one of London’s most closely watched Korean fine dining restaurants.

The arrival of A.Wong for a temporary summer residency adds another major chef-led name to the Hanover Square hotel, albeit for a limited period while Andrew’s flagship restaurant undergoes its refurbishment.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair opened in one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods, close to Bond Street and Savile Row, with 50 rooms and suites, private residences, Atrium Restaurant, Hanover Bar and a spa.

For A.Wong, the move offers a short-term Mayfair stage for one of London’s most distinctive restaurants before the team returns to its refreshed Pimlico home.
