Angela Hartnett OBE is set to bring her signature Italian-inspired cooking to one of London’s most iconic cultural venues - the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Opening in September, the new restaurant and rooftop terrace bar will be located on the fifth floor, offering picturesque views over Covent Garden Piazza and the West End.
The new venue will be open to both the public and theatre ticket holders, serving lunch and dinner in the restaurant, and offering all-day dining and drinks on the terrace bar. The bar will take inspiration from traditional Italian cafés in Turin, combining classic style with stunning surroundings.
A Culinary Legacy
Angela Hartnett is one of the UK’s most celebrated chefs, known for her sophisticated yet simple approach to Italian food.
She began her culinary journey inspired by her Italian grandmother, working in family-run kitchens before gaining experience abroad and later training under Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing.
She earned her first Michelin star at The Connaught in 2004, and later opened Murano in Mayfair, earning a second Michelin star and four AA Rosettes.
In 2007, she was awarded an MBE, followed by an OBE in 2022, recognising her contribution to hospitality and her support for the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beyond the kitchen, Angela is a familiar face on British TV, having appeared as a judge on Great British Menu.
She said: “Opening at the Royal Opera House, such an iconic London institution, is a real privilege. We’re creating something entirely new for the space: relaxed, with food that celebrates exceptional produce and simplicity. Most of all we want the restaurant and bar to be for everyone, not just for those attending a performance.”
Sophie Wybrew-Bond, chief commercial officer, Royal Ballet and Opera said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with Angela Hartnett at the Royal Opera House on creating breathtaking new spaces - where exceptional art and extraordinary food come together in perfect harmony. Working with our longstanding partners, Company of Cooks, and set in the vibrant heart of Covent Garden, our new restaurant and terrace bar are poised to become one of London’s most exciting dining and drinking destinations.”
