Chishuru’s Chef Owner Joké Bakare has launched a crowdfund to re-open her West African restaurant located in London's Oxford Circus.

Her fundraiser comes after the restaurant closed last October after it outgrew the venue space.

So far, as of 3 March, Joké has raised £10,320 of her £75,000 target.

Money raised from the fundraiser will be used to fund Chishuru's budget for building the site, as well as the sourcing of new furniture, kitchen appliances, and the payment of pre-opening expenses and upfront landlord costs.

Chishuru's site has already been secured and will serve up to 50 covers on the ground floor and basement, with the restaurant also boasting an open kitchen.

A statement on Joké’s crowdfund read: "We're incredibly excited to open "Chishuru

2.0" in central London. Joké's food is one-of-a-kind and we can't wait to present it on a bigger stage."

To encourage donations, Joké is offering a number of rewards and offers including lunch or dinner for two; cooking classes; private chef opportunities; and a chance to engrave their names on the ‘founders' wall' in the restaurant.

Originally opening September 2020, Chishuru first opened as a pop-up restaurant in South London serving food inspired by Joké's Nigerian heritage.

After being open for just three-month, Joké's pop-up turned into a permanent site spurred on by regular custom and a positive review from Jay Rayner in the Observer.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
