Chefs to recreate iconic snacks from scratch in series hosted by Fred Sirieix

A four-episode series on Channel featuring the UK's top chefs will see them attempting to make industrial snacks - a KitKat, Snickers, the Burger King Whopper and Pickled Onion Monster Munch.

The programme will be hosted by celebrity Maitre d'H Fred Sirieix, airing at an undisclosed date.

The concept, not dissimilar to the highly popular Gourmet Makes series hosted by American pastry chef Claire Saffitz on Bon Appetit's YouTube channel, will put the chefs' technical talents to the test while they try to reverse engineer the products, with just a list of ingredients to go with.

Their attempts will then be judged by assembly-line workers and bosses of the manufacturing companies behind the products - before being shown how they are actually

Host and general manager of Galvin at Windows Fred Sirieix said that, having worked with top chefs his whole life, he knows "only too well how competitive and particular they are," but that the series would be "a challenge on a different scale."

"It is the defining moment of their career. Can they actually replicate a world-famous snack? How will they go about it? Believe me when I say this, these snacks are the hardest thing they ever had to make.”

Meanwhile commissioning Editor at Channel 4, Alisa Pomeroy said: “we knew that the science behind Britain's favourite mass-produced snacks was fascinating, but none of us expected the chefs’ attempts to unlock it would be so funny. It’s a joy to see them enter so fully into the spirit of the challenge.”
