The Staff Canteen
The BBC have named celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala as Food Personality of the Year at the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming awards held in Bristol last night. The award was given by the BBC, their judges and by the public votes which came in from viewers of Saturday Kitchen on BBC One, where Cyrus is a regular guest, and other BBC programmes, he has also appeared in the BBC Two food series ‘The Incredible Spiceman’ last year. “Cyrus is as passionate about the catering industry as he is about curry. His approach to teaching and sharing his passion on and off the screen is undoubting … He epitomises what a celebrity chef should be” was the comment from the judging panel. The Chef Patron of Café Spice Namaste, Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen at Hilton London Heathrow T5, The Park Café in Victoria Park and new venture Assado in London Waterloo has made his mark on the food industry not only in the
capital but also in his hometown of Mumbai, drawing on his rich Parsee culinary heritage and influences from across India and from his many travels. His newest restaurant, Assado, focuses on the fusion between East and West and is based in Waterloo, by the iconic Old Vic. A Goan-Portuguese restaurant, it offers tapas, curries and the now famous Goan style Pulled Pork Assado – all handpicked for the menu by Cyrus himself.     Cyrus Todiwala said, ‘I’m very grateful to everyone who voted, to the BBC and to all the judges. Their belief and support have been terrific and the outpouring of goodwill has touched me so much. And of course where would I be without Pervin, my sons, our loyal customers who keep us going, friends and all the team across the different restaurants, now including Assado. Everyone has worked so hard. I am so happy and beyond honoured!'
Small Contribution. Big Impact.
