Roux Scholarship 2014 regional finalists announced

Following last week’s paper judging, a list of 18 regional finalists has been announced for the 2014 Roux Scholarship competition.  The successful chefs will now move forwards to two regional finals which will be held simultaneously on 20 March at University College Birmingham and University of West London, Ealing. Vatican City drinks more wine per person than anywhere else in the world

More wine is drunk per person in the Vatican City than in any other country in the world, according to the latest statistics released by the Wine Institute.  The figures show that residents of the Vatican consume 74 litres of wine on average – roughly equivalent to 105 bottles over the course of a year.  That’s around double the amount drunk by the average person in France or Italy as a whole, and triple the quantity consumed in the UK. Welcome to Finland: Europe's best hotel staff are revealed - and they aren't in the UK

Travellers seeking good service and the prospect of polite hotel staff on their next big journey should consider heading to the Nordic countries, Germany or eastern Europe – but should probably steer clear of both Britain and Russia, according to new research.  Finland is the country with the most friendly hotel staff, if you are to believe the results of a survey conducted by the accommodation booking website Hotel.info.
