Daniela Soto-Innes replaces Clare Smyth as World’s Best Female chef in World’s 50 Best list

The Staff Canteen

New York head chef Daniela Soto-Innes has been named World’s Best Female chef in the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list for 2019.

The chef partner of modern Mexican restaurants Cosme and Atla is the youngest chef to receive the contentious award, which was first given to three Michelin-starred Dominique Crenn in 2017, followed by Clare Smyth, whose flagship restaurant, Core, received two Michelin stars in its first year.

It is worth noting, however, that neither of their restaurants made it to the Top 50 Best restaurants, whereas Cosme was number 25 on the 2018 list. The awards announcing The World’s 50 Best list for 2019 will be held in Singapore on June 25th.

Daniela, who is originally from Mexico, trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Austin Texas. She staged across Europe and in New York restaurants and worked in venues around the country before joining forces with Olvera at Pujol in Mexico City.

She was named chef de cuisine at Cosme in New York when it opened in 2014, and helped launch Atla with Olvera in 2017.
