It has been reported that Gordon Ramsay's Maze in London’s Mayfair will close in 2019 after 14 years.

The restaurant based in Grosvenor Square held a star until 2015 - now Maze it serves sushi-and-grills but is set to be replaced by a 'new concept' according to The Guardian.

Kavalake, the holding company for the group – which includes some of London’s most famous restaurants such as Petrus, Savoy Grill, Maze and Bread Street Kitchen – reported a pre-tax loss of £3.8m in the year to the end of August 2017 but they say they will open 'five new restaurants overseas'.

The new venues this year, include a Bread Street Kitchen in Sanya, China, and four other restaurants in North America, including a new concept in Las Vegas called Hell’s Kitchen, which opened in January.

The group told The Guardian: “A number of new international contracts are being actively negotiated, however, contracts have yet to be signed.

“The global spread of our restaurants means the business is not reliant upon one location and is therefore well placed to adapt and adjust to softer trading conditions.”

Since it opened in 2005 Maze has been a training-ground for some of the UK's top chefs including Jason Atherton, who was executive chef until 2010.

The new concept restaurant is set to launch next year under a new 10-year lease.
