Now in its fourth year, La Liste has unveiled its top 1000 restaurants and Guy Savoy has once again topped the list.

Each year the top 1000 restaurants worldwide are ranked by amassing hundreds of guidebooks and millions of online reviews and compiling them into a worldwide restaurant selection. Taking in restaurants from 179 different countries, La Liste is a comprehensive guide to the best restaurants in the world.

For the last two years, Gordon Ramsay’s eponymous restaurant has reigned supreme as the best British restaurant, but how did his restaurant and the other British ones fare this year?

Last year Gordon Ramsay was the highest ranking British restaurant and has maintained its position with a score of 96. Nottingham based Sat Bains has taken the second spot for Britain, scoring 95, while L’Enclume and Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester both scored 94.

60 British restaurants have been included this year, a vast increase from last year where 39 were selected. Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, still the Good Food Guide 2019’s highest rated restaurant, (scoring 85.50), 2 Michelin-starred Core by Clare Smyth (87.50), Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons (91.75) and Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck (scoring 90.25) all join these restaurants among others on the list.

The list continues to laud Japanese cuisine with 148 restaurants representing it in the global rankings, a rise on its already more than impressive 134 from last year. China also continued to gain a greater foothold in the rankings with 134 restaurants. France lost one restaurant, and now has 117.

Europe maintains a strong presence in the gastronomic elite. Spain (68), Germany (53), Italy (55) and Belgium (25) join France and Britain.

Including 179 countries in its list, the diversity and inventiveness of the culinary world is being displayed with countries such as Canada (14) and South Africa (15) having greater representation. In particular Mexico has experienced a surge in the number of restaurants included, going from 20 last year to 49.

Parity in restaurant kitchens is still a way off however, the names of more women in restaurant kitchens are popping up. Tekuna Gachechiladze of Café Littera in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Marta Ortiz from Dulce Patria in Mexico City are two of the newest names.

Outside of La Liste 2019’s World Top 1000 it also has a section showing of 10000 food gems, outstanding food experiences for the intrepid foodie.
