It has been announced today that Lee Westcott will close his first restaurant, Typing Room, after four successful years.

In a statement the Town Hall Hotel, where the restaurant is based, confirmed Typing Room in Bethnal Green will close towards the end of June 2018.

Lee said: "I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has helped us achieve amazing things over the years. This includes all our wonderful guests, suppliers and friends – I cannot thank you enough for your loyalty and support. Although a little sad, I’m also looking forward to exploring other culinary options and getting stuck in exciting projects in the future."

The restaurant received nationwide recognition and accolades including 4 AA Rosettes, 4/5 stars from Evening Standard’s Fay Maschler, 5/5 rating from Hardens and a 6/10 score from the Good Food

Guide.

Lee's style of cooking proved seasonal and modern and saw many chef collaborations including Tommy Banks, Peter Sanchez, Michael Wignall and a dinner with his mentor, Tom Aikens. It also saw him compete in the BBC's Great British Menu.

Lee has decided to pursue new culinary ambitions and will focus on other future projects. Town Hall Hotel is set to repurpose the space and will not look to open any further restaurants beyond the Corner Room — a light-filled, neighbourhood spot serving approachable French cooking by Chef Craig Johnson.

Owner of the hotel, Peng Loh, added: "I couldn’t thank Lee enough for his contribution to the Town Hall Hotel and Unlisted Collection over the last four years. Although the accolades speak for themselves, Lee really has proven himself to be a great talent in the kitchen - and I can’t wait to see what future brings for him."
