Nathan Outlaw to close flagship and relaunch as Outlaw's New Road
Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw's flagship restaurant will not be reopening its doors in july - but will be relaunched as a new restaurant: Outlaw's New Road.
Information about the restaurant, located on the same site in Port Isaac, was uploaded to the chef's website, describing the project as "a brand new offering from Nathan Outlaw," of which, unsurprisingly, it says the "specialist subject" will be seafood.
The restaurant will serve "seafood of the highest quality, served simply in homage to our Cornish waters," reflecting the ethos Nathan Outlaw is famous for (“The closer I can get to a piece of simply cooked fresh fish served with a wedge of lemon, the happier I am”).
Dishes on the sample menu include Port Isaac crab, marinated tomato and samphire salad; turbot on the bone with warm tartare sauce and whole john dory for two with parsley, lemon and garlic dressing.
Given the current circumstances, Outlaw's New Road will operate under
strict safety procedures, which will include limited reservations and spacing between tables; guests will be allowed into the restaurant only at the time of their reservation, and they will be asked to sanitise their hands upon entry.
The decision to take his flagship in a new direction follows on the news that his newly-launched London restaurant, Siren, located at the Goring, won't be reopening its doors. At the time, the chef said that he would instead spend more time focusing on his restaurants closer to home, in Cornwall.
The chef gave a statement to Bloomberg food critic Richard Vines, where he explained:
Nathan Outlaw: "It is time to change the restaurant to a new, more accessible and fun environment for both customers and staff alike. I am a different chef and person and get far more pleasure and reward from the simpler things in life, and that includes the way I cook and eat"
