Som Saa London temporarily closed following kitchen fire

Thai restaurant Som Saa in London has temporarily closed following a fire in its kitchen.

Som Saa is a renowned Thai restaurant located on Commercial Street in Spitalfields, East London.

Founded by chefs Andy Oliver and Mark Dobbie, Som Saa began as a pop-up in Hackney before establishing its permanent home in a converted warehouse near Spitalfields Market.

Som Saa’s menu is a celebration of bold, regional Thai cooking, particularly from the Isaan (northeast), northern, and central regions of Thailand.

The fire broke out on May 4, causing significant damage to the restaurant's kitchen.

Som Saa also praised the London Fire Brigade for its speedy response to the incident.

we had a fire our kitchen extraction system. it got bad quickly, and we had to evacuate.

“All the team are safe and well, but we have significant damage to repair and a large clean-up to do.

“Huge shout to the London Fire Brigade who were in the building, saving the day, just 3 minutes after we made the call.

“We don’t yet know when we can reopen, but it won’t be this week. our team have been getting in contact with impacted bookings. our sister restaurant Kolae is open as usual.

“Thanks also for all the kind messages. we will post updates (and share some learnings from this very scary day) in the coming days.”
