The Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2017 has named The Marksman in Bethnal Green as their Michelin Pub of the Year 2017.

The guide, which is out today, recommends more than 500 pubs from across Great Britain and Ireland. The guide also sees 37 new entries to the list while Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers remains the only two Michelin starred restaurant to feature in the guide.

Customers can enjoy a selection of British dishes in the wood-panelled bar or in the modern upstairs dining room. The pub, situated on Hackney Road in East London also hosts regular events with guest chefs, live music and DJs.

Rebecca Burr, editor of the Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2017, said: “The Marksman cleverly combines a place to drink with new era pub food. One of the things we love about it is that it’s a proper neighbourhood pub first and foremost, with a cosy, traditional bar in which to enjoy a pint of local ale or a bottle of craft beer.”

She added: “As well as being our 2017 Pub of the Year, The Marksman is also the recipient of a Michelin Bib Gourmand, awarded to places which offer good value, good quality cooking. The passion that Tom and Jon have for their first venture together is obvious and it’s great to see them using some lesser-known ingredients to create gutsy, keenly priced and wonderfully fresh dishes. This is British comfort food at its best!”

Also on the list are 39 pubs which have been awarded a Bib Gourmand - an award for great value cooking - along with 17 Michelin starred establishments that have been recognised for their top quality cuisine which includes last year’s ‘Pub of the Year’ and holder of one Michelin star, The Wild Rabbit in Kingham and The Pony & Trap which is co-owned by one of this year’s Great British Menu contestants, Josh Eggleton. Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers Marlow pub also remains the only two starred establishment to feature on the list.

The Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2015 will be available in bookshops and online from Friday 31st October 2014, priced at £13.99 (€14.99 in Ireland).
