The Staff Canteen Live College Tour is heading to University College Birmingham

The Staff Canteen

The Staff Canteen Live college tour is designed to celebrate hospitality as a great career choice and this month it's heading to University College Birmingham!

Next week we'll be hosting another panel with yet more inspiring chefs, all from different sectors of the industry.  Open to all third year hospitality students based at the college, the third event in the series will take place on April 10, 2019 and will be live streamed on both our YouTube channel and Facebook page.

We will be live from 1pm -2pm and the talented chefs who will be joining us on stage are Aktar Islam, multiple award-winning English chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur; Louisa Ellis who's successful MasterChef: The Professionals appearance has seen her raise her profile and work at two Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains; Rob Palmer, the head chef at Michelin-starred Peels and David Lythall, Alton Towers Resort Executive Head Chef.

The tour is in association with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Action, and aims to inform students on how to forge a successful career. Sponsors for the event are Koppert Cress and Alaska Seafood

The Staff Canteen Managing Director, Dan Newman, said: "It's great to be at UCB for round three of our exciting TSC Live College Tour series. The previous events from Westminster College and Bournemouth & Poole College have highlighted how valuable it is for the students to hear first-hand from great chefs who started out just like them, about the challenges and opportunities from a career in hospitality."

He added: "The panel of cross sector chefs at UCB are sure to inspire everyone there and through the support of our sponsors and partners, I expect the event to be another huge success."

As well as offering students the opportunity to question the chefs directly, they will all be entered in to a competition draw and the winner will spend a day in the kitchen of their choice of one of chefs on the panel. The winner from the last event was Tristan Seageo who is studying 1st year in NVQ professional cookery, he said he really enjoyed the panel event, adding that it was lovely to hear about the chefs and their backgrounds, where they came from and what they wanted to do as they progressed through.

As with each College event, The Staff Canteen will be donating £1000 to Hospitality Action, on behalf of the chefs on the panel.
