This makes for a total of 38 two-star restaurants in Germany. Compared with 18 in 2010, the 2015 guide clearly illustrates the rapid ascent of German gourmet dining in recent years. Similarly, with 31 new one-star restaurants in the selection In all, Germany has 233 restaurants with one star. All 11 three-star restaurants have retained there stars in this year’s guide meaning that Germany, once again boasts, the second-highest number of three-star restaurants in Europe. “Our inspectors have seen German gourmet dining really take off in recent years,” says Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin guides. “You only have to look at what’s happened in the last five. Germany has never had so many one- and two-star restaurants, nor so many Bib Gourmand restaurants. The addition of 25% more starred restaurants in five years is a testament to the extraordinary vitality of the German culinary scene, which ranks among the best in Europe and the world. Journeying across Germany over many months, the Michelin guide inspectors observed many trends that illustrate just how much Germany gastronomy is evolving. Michael Ellis added: “Its lively cuisine is led by a new generation of extremely talented chefs who are open to ideas from around the world, who brilliantly execute innovative cooking techniques and who embody the future of German gastronomy, which is destined to shine for many years to come.” The number of restaurants awarded the Bib Gourmand award continues to rise year after year. The 2015 Michelin guide Germany lists a total of 474 Bib Gourmand restaurants, 30% more than five years ago and a record since the guide’s creation in 1997.
