Top female chefs unite at O2 Arena to challenge inequality in hospitality

The Staff Canteen

Leading female chefs are coming together at the O2 Arena this June to challenge gender inequality in professional kitchens.

The UK premiere of the award-winning documentary 'A Fine Line' will take place on June 23 at Cineworld, bringing together international voices for an evening of film, food, and discussion.

The event is hosted by US nonprofit MAPP (Mentorship, Advocacy, Purpose and Power), in partnership with Women in the Food Industry, Les Dames d’Escoffier London, and Brand Archery.

It follows the momentum of an open letter signed by 70 leading UK chefs calling out sexism in hospitality.

Powerful Panel of Voices

After a canapé and wine reception, guests will watch A Fine Line, which features trailblazing chefs like Dominique Crenn, Elena Arzak, and Mashama Bailey. The screening will be followed by a live panel discussion with top UK chefs:

The Bull Charlbury
  • Chantelle Nicholson, chef/owner of Michelin Green Star restaurant Apricity
  • MAPP founder Joanna James said: “This is about smashing the kitchen ceiling. Women are the majority in hospitality’s early ranks, yet make up less than 7% of leadership. It’s time for real, cross-border change.”

The event will also showcase US-based chef Kiran Verma, a 2023 James Beard Award semi-finalist, who will cook alongside Chef Dipna Anand at Southall’s Brilliant Gastro.

Verma will also meet culinary educator Anjula Devi, highlighting the spirit of mentorship at the heart of the evening.

Mex Ibrahim, co-founder of Women in the Food Industry said: “We’re thrilled to connect women over food, film, and shared purpose.”

Kate Howell, board member of Les Dames d’Escoffier London, added: “This is about showing the true impact of women in hospitality - and working together globally to push for progress.”

    Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
