Tributes have been paid following the death of Christopher Trotter, a Scottish food writer and respected chef at the age of 68.

Christopher Trotter was a chef, food writer, tour guide, consultant and loyal Food from Fife member, who championed the food scene in Fife, Scotland.

Food from Fife is a network that highlights local food producers, artisans, growers, and the food culture of Fife.

Chris' background

His training began at The Savoy in London, where what was supposed to be one year in the kitchens turned into three.

Christopher’s career also took him into Michelin-starred kitchens in both France and England, where he worked at senior level - including time leading a team in one such restaurant, according to profiles written about his career.

He has worked in Switzerland, France, and in Michelin-starred kitchens, before returning to Scotland.

Food from Fife tribute

A post on social media read: "We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Christopher Trotter, a much-loved member of Food from Fife and passionate advocate for local food and producers.

"Christopher was a chef, food writer, tour guide and Fife Food Ambassador, whose passion, enthusiasm and generosity inspired so many across the region.

"At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service, as Christopher made the generous decision to

donate his body to St Andrews University Medical School.

"Our thoughts are with Caroline, Henry and Byam.

"He will be greatly missed by all who knew him."

Users took to Instagram to share their sadness at the news of Christopher’s passing.

One person wrote: "Christopher was an incredible man and did so much for Scotland’s food community. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed."

Another person commented: "We were so very sorry to learn this extremely sad news. I had great times over the years working with Chris. A true ambassador for food and drink from Fife and Scotland. He will be greatly missed. Sending love to the family."

A LOVE FOR FIFE

In a previous interview with Food from Fife, Christopher said: "I am so lucky that I love all that I do. Over the years I have just looked at opportunities and taken them and have developed the variety of activities I now have. I love celebrating my own country and in particular Fife and sharing my knowledge of the amazing produce of Scotland.

"Here in Fife, we have Scotland in miniature. Everything Scotland has, we have here in Fife. Shellfish, beef, lamb, Game. We have only one unpasteurised cheese maker – Jane Stewart of St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company at Pittenweem, a whole range of vegetables and soft fruit and so it goes on. What’s not to like!"
