Do you have a favourite type of cuisine?
How would you describe your style of cooking and any influences? “I’m influenced by both Japanese and Scandinavian food - these two cuisines live and die to preserve the heritage of cooking. I like to have fun with cooking, for example serving food in a theatrical way or with strong links to nature. I cook a lot of fish and meat as I used to spend lots of time fishing in Kenya and my grandad had a livestock farm. These early influences still inspire
my cooking today.”
How did you become a chef?
“I’m half Italian and half Somali. I grew up in Kenya and everyone got involved in the cooking. Because of this, I saw from a young age how it brought people together and I fell in love with it from that point.”
Where have you worked?
Trained at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts; Chef de Partie at Texture; Acting Head Chef, Charlotte’s Place.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
“The highlight of my career was being able to cater for people who want a hospitality experience to remember, all from the comfort of their homes with family and friends.”
Why did you want to take part in MasterChef: The Professionals?
“I wanted to test, challenge and push my boundaries as a chef – and what an experience it was too. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity and experience to meet and cook against some incredible chefs and competitors within the catering industry.”
