William Sitwell launches Casa Wivey in Somerset

The Staff Canteen

Food writer, critic and broadcaster William Sitwell has announced bold plans to revive The White Hart in Wiveliscombe.

The new venture will transform the historic site into a chic hotel and Italian restaurant named Casa Wivey.

A regular on television, William is a familiar face on shows such as MasterChef, where his sharp wit and authoritative knowledge of food make him a memorable guest critic. He has also appeared on BBC Radio 4s The Kitchen Cabinet and other food-related broadcasts.

The White Hart, a well-known fixture in the town, recently closed its doors. William's vision is to breathe new life into the building with a concept that blends authentic Italian dining with the warmth and accessibility of a family-friendly restaurant, alongside a stylish bar and dedicated workspace.

This marks a significant new chapter for William, who has spent more than 25 years writing about food and drink. Best known for his work as a restaurant critic, author, and broadcaster, he also runs the hugely successful

Sitwell Supper Club. Now, he is moving from commentary into the heart of hospitality with his first serious business venture.

A post on social media read: "As The White Hart, Wiveliscombe, West Somerset, closes I’m delighted to announce my plan for it to rise again as a chic hotel and Italian restaurant. Casa Wivey will be a fabulous, accessible family restaurant with a great bar and work space and I’m teaming up with the best in the business in the area to make it happen. After 25 years writing about food and drink this is my first serious venture into the hospitality business alongside the hugely successful Sitwell Supper Club. Casa Wivey is set to become a vibrant new destination in West Somerset, promising authentic Italian flavours, stylish interiors, and a renewed heartbeat for the town’s hospitality scene.
