The bell pepper is the fruit of plants in the Grossum cultivar group of the species Capsicum annuum.   Bell peppers originated in Mexico, Central America, and South America. red, green, yellow and orange bell peppers are all the same type of pepper but just at different stages of ripeness. Green peppers are unripe, red are fully ripe, with yellow and orange in between the two. We use them in our 'Cauliflower Manchurian' recipe.
