Gastronomy's biggest prize opens beyond the kitchen

The Basque Culinary Center's International Council will meet in Brazil for the first time in November and will choose a winner who no longer has to be a chef.


When the Basque Culinary Center's International Council convenes in Paraná, Brazil, in November to select the prize's tenth winner, it will consider nominees from across the food sector for the first time including food scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, people running feeding programmes in vulnerable communities. The criterion is social 

The Council, which gathers annually and has previously met in New York, Tokyo, Lima, Modena and San Francisco, has never assembled in Brazil in its sixteen years. From 6 to 10 November it will do so at the invitation of Manu Buffara, the Curitiba chef recognised as Latin America's best female chef and a longtime advocate of urban agriculture impact.
