Simon Radley was born in Manchester and was first introduced to The Chester Grosvenor at the age of 21 when he joined as junior chef. Later, Simon took time out to broaden his experience including working under chef Paul Gavler at Inigo Jones in Covent Gardens for 12 months.

He returned to The Chester Grosvenor in 1988 with the opening of the new gourmet restaurant Arkle. Two years later, Arkle was awarded a Michelin star for the first time.

After 20 years, Simon has established his mark on the hotel and it has a fantastic reputation for excellence. The restaurant has retained its Michelin star since 1990 and has been awarded four rosettes by the AA. 

Simon become synonymous with the hotel’s reputation in 2008 for outstanding cuisine and service. The restaurant was then renamed Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor in recognition of Simon’s accomplishments.

Food style

Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor offers contemporary dining in sophisticated atmosphere. Simon places great importance on using the very finest produce with an increasing emphasis on sourcing ingredients from regional producers and forming longstanding relationships with them. 

Each dish on the menu has been lovingly prepared by the dedicated team of chefs. The cellar is one of the most extensive in England with over 1000 bins from all over the world.


 The award-winning restaurant has retained its Michelin star since 1990 and has four AA rosettes. The 2014 Sunday Times Top 100 restaurants in the UK listed Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor in 14th place, also being placed 4th for best wine list.

There are two award-winning restaurants, most notably 'Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor' that has retained its Michelin star since 1990. The Spa at The Chester Grosvenor offers rituals and treatment which are designed to balance mind body and spirit.  

 The Chester Grosvenor’s is owned by and named after the family of The Duke of Westminster. Situated in the heart of Chester next to the landmark Eastgate clock, it’s also in close proximity to Chester Cathedral and the ancient city walls. The hotel has 68 bedrooms and 12 stylish suites, all individually designed and beautifully furnished with the finest fabrics.
