About Alex

Born and raised in a family with a deep appreciation for food, Alex's passion for cooking began at a young age. His culinary journey took him through some of the world's most prestigious culinary institutions, where he honed his skills and developed a unique style that seamlessly blends classical techniques with contemporary flair.

Before joining Sorrel, Alex worked at The Tudor Pass as the restaurant's

executive head chef, Alex held positions at Gordon Ramsay at The Savoy, the one Michelin-starred Hinds Head in Bray, the one Michelin-starred Matt Worsick at The Latymer, and The Vineyard, amongst others.

In 2018, Alex took part in season 11 of MasterChef: The Professionals where he impressed judges, cooking four of his own dishes, resulting in him reaching the programme's quarter finals and knock-out stages.

The transition

Alex takes over from Steve Drake, who opened Sorrel in 2017 and quickly secured a Michelin star. Steve will now step into a new role as restaurant owner, shifting his focus to other projects, including Steve Drake Food and new ventures in development.

Steve added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Alex to Sorrel. He’s a chef of exceptional skill and vision, and I’m confident he’ll help shape the restaurant’s next chapter with his unique perspective and culinary creativity. It’s an exciting time for all of us at Sorrel."
