It’s that time of year again when the Craft Guild of Chefs puts out the feelers to find chefs with bags of skill and flair to take part in one of the largest, live competitions in the UK.   We have now opened our annual search for chefs who are champing at the bit for the chance to test their skills on a big stage by putting themselves forward for next year’s Wessex Salon Culinaire, set to take place, once again, at Brockenhurst College on May 28-29th, 2014.   If this sounds like you, the competition is split into four categories, Live Hot, Live Cold, Restaurant and Display, with scores of classes for entrants to choose, from a British game main course in the Live Hot section right through to napkin folding in the Restaurant Table Display.   The deadline for entries is Friday 2nd May, 2014.   As a bit of background, the event organised by the Craft Guild has grown in stature over the years and is an especially good platform for student chefs wanting competition experience.   Over eighty gold medals and just under 150 silver medals were won at the 2013 event, which attracted more than 700 entries over the four categories – more than double the number at the 2012 competition.   With six months to go before the Wessex wheels once again burst into motion, we are pleased to welcome on board this year’s competition sponsors so far; CCS, Chewton Glen, Churchill China, Cloud Hotel, Collins King, Essential Cuisine, Fullers, Gourmet Classic, Hartnett Holder & Co, Marlin Marquees, MCS, Tilda, Village Veg Limited and Wenlock Springs, with more to be announced shortly.   As the established event venue for the competition, Brockenhurst College, located in the New Forest National Park, is one of the UK’s top colleges and has been awarded the Beacon College status for excellence in further education and ranked 'outstanding' by Ofsted.   What are you waiting for? For an entry form for a competition experience like no other, email [email protected] or call 020 8948 3870.
