Chef Career Advice

Based on her extensive experience working within the Hospitality Industry, Assistant Manager, Anna Davey offers her advice to aspiring Chefs in an attempt to help them on their journey up the career ladder:

Hi my name is Anna Davey, I'm the Assistant restaurant Manager at Outlaws restaurant in Rock.

The advice I would give to anybody just about to leave college would be to find somewhere that you're happy, find somewhere that feels right to you and just keep at it. A young food service professional in this day and age I would say can expect some difficult customers, I think with the more modern times and fashions and things like that definitely food trends have changed and people, things like dietary and all sorts of things people are becoming much more finicky so definitely some tricky customers which defiantly makes the job more challenging.

The best bit of careers advice that I've ever been given would be to keep yourself challenged, keep yourself moving. When a candidate applies for a job with me, I'm looking for a massive amount of passion that is really the most important thing when it comes to front of house service the customer has got to see that you're wanting to do what you're doing, that can only ever be a good thing so passion and the ability to learn as well not necessarily bags of experience but just the ability to want the experience. 

A young person can expect from a career with Nathan Outlaw restaurants. A massive amount of space to grow and to learn and to climb a ladder basically there are so many opportunities within relatively young companies so yeah I think it's a brilliant place to start your career.
