Dinner by Heston Blumenthal launches Dine for Good in support of Farm Africa

For the months of April and May diners at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will be asked to donate £1 to support Farm Africa’s Dine for Good campaign. The donation is added to the bill and all funds raised will go towards Farm Africa’s work in eastern Africa supporting farmers to grow a more prosperous future. Just £1 could help buy 1kg of sorghum seeds, which are drought tolerant and high in protein, enabling farmers to grow nutritious food even in challenging environments.

What makes this year even more special is that Heston has just won the Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards held in Melbourne, Australia, today.

It’s difficult to think of a chef who has had more of an impact on the way the world cooks than Heston Blumenthal. He is the UK’s very own nutty professor who has developed hundreds of cutting-edge techniques such as the use of liquid nitrogen in the kitchen.

He has also been able to make his complex ideas and recipes accessible to people who don’t regularly dine in fancy restaurants. He has made dozens of TV shows that have been broadcast across the world and published several cookbooks that simplify his techniques.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal serves fascinating dishes that play with historical British recipes including the famous Meat Fruit, a contender for one of the world’s most Instagrammed dishes that was also served to guests at Farm Africa’s Gala dinner held at the V&A Museum in London last year. 2015 saw a second Dinner by Heston Blumenthal open in Melbourne, the city where the awards ceremony will be held this year.

Farm Africa is also the official charity of the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards, which will be livestreamed from Melbourne on Wednesday 5 April at 8pm local time (10.00 am GMT) here:

In 2016 the Michelin-starred Dinner at Heston Blumenthal in the Royal Mandarin Hotel in Knightsbridge raised an amazing £5,000 for Farm Africa’s Dine for Good fundraising campaign. Let’s hope this latest award for Heston will help Dinner achieve even more this year to help realise Farm Africa’s vision of a prosperous rural Africa
