Adam Byatt closes Bistro Union in Clapham
Adam Byatt has closed Bistro Union, the neighbourhood bistro on Abbeville Road in Clapham that sat alongside his Michelin-starred Trinity for more than 14 years.
The closure was announced on the restaurant's website, which now carries a short farewell to its customers and links to book at his other establishments Trinity and Rosina instead.
Bistro Union said: "After 15 brilliant years on Abbeville Road, it's time for us to close this chapter.
"It has been an absolute pleasure serving this community, thank you to all the guests that have come through the doors and supported us along the way."
The restaurant added that its remaining 2026 Chef Series evenings would now be hosted at Upstairs at Trinity, and that it looked forward to seeing guests at one of the group's other restaurants.
No reason for the closure was given in the statement.
A British bistro on Abbeville Road
Bistro Union opened in 2011, as the more relaxed sister to Trinity, which Adam had opened in Clapham Old Town in 2006. Its first head chef was Karl Goward, who came from St John Bread and Wine, and the opening menu was built around British classics such as beer and onion soup and cottage pie.
It kept that brief through several kitchen changes. Andy Lambert took over from Joshua Hooper as head chef in 2022, arriving after seven years at The Canton Arms in Stockwell with a plan to relaunch the menu in what he called a "brilliantly British" way.
Adam Byatt's other restaurants
The closure comes nine days after Adam was voted AA Chefs' Chef of the Year 2026 by his fellow AA rosette holding chefs at the AA Hospitality Awards in London.
Trinity, which won its first Michelin star in 2016, remains the flagship of the group, with the Bib Gourmand Upstairs at Trinity above it. Adam is also chef director at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair, where he launched Charlie's, and chairman of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts.
His two most recent openings are Constance on Fulham Pier and Rosina, his first Italian restaurant, which opened on Bellevue Road by Wandsworth Common this summer with Will Bee as head chef.
