29 year-old chef and Great British Menu 2022 contestant Angelo Sato is bringing back his QSR concept, YATAI, with plans to open on Goodge Street in mid-spring

Since the first UK lockdown in the spring of 2020, the ex-Restaurant Story chef and owner of Soho Yakitori restaurant Humble Chicken, Angelo Sato, has been providing Londoners with a taste of traditional Japanese home food with his Japanese QSR concept, YATAI.

Prior to the pandemic, the pop-up was located in the West End's Market Halls, and will soon be headed to Central London with a menu that includes traditional sushi bowls, donburis and Katsu curries.

YATAI, which means "store stand" in Japanese, has always had a clear mission, the chef told The Staff Canteen: "to make high-quality, authentic Japanese cuisine that doesn’t skimp on premium ingredients or traditional cooking techniques, at a cost that is comparable to that of high-street chains."

Japanese-born Angelo has worked in award-winning restaurants around the world, from Tokyo to New York and finally to London.

YATAI, he said, "will strive to strike a balance between producing high-quality cuisine with vivid Japanese flavours while remaining accessible to the local workforce."
