Barry Johnson wins UK Pastry Open at The Restaurant Show

Barry Johnson from Rococo Chocolates has been crowned the UK Pastry Open champion. The award was presented as part of the Restaurant Show which got underway today at Earls Court in London. Barry received highest marks from the judges in the ‘best tasting pastry’ category which helped him obtain the winning score overall. Barry created a Valrhona chocolate piece inspired by the Lion King, entitled ‘Circle of Life’. It is the second holding of the UK Pastry Open and there were a number of other prizes awarded
with Joakim Prat named the rising star, Javier Mercado taking the best sugar show piece and Glen Sharman the best chocolate piece. All were among seven candidates battling it out for a space on the next UK pastry team to represent their country at the European Pastry Cup and then the final of the Coupe du Monde. The Restaurant Show continues until Wednesday with awards such as the National Chef of the Year due to be presented while industry leading chefs including Joan Roca will give live talks.
