Chef Alan Gibb has died suddenly following a stroke

The Staff Canteen

Earlier this morning chef Alan Gibb executive chef at Gleneagles in Scotland passed away in Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital after suffering a stroke. Balbirnie House, where Alan used to be executive chef, took to social media to convey their sadness. In a tweet they said they would be lowering their flags to half-mast in honour and respect of their former executive chef.

The tweet read: “Our flags are lowering to half mast today. RIP Chef Alan Gibb, sorely missed - and thank you for The Memories.”

In another tweet Balbirnie House recalled working with Alan and first meeting him back in the 1990’s before he was taken on as their executive chef.

“I recall the first conversation I had with Alan Gibb, back in the 1990's. A culinary visionary, blending innovation

with volume capability.”

Alan was the executive chef at the 5 star resort and Golf Club, Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. Alan began his career in 1984 working for kitchens across Scotland, London and France.

It was in 1998 that Alan got his big break heading up the kitchen at Balbirnie House where he was head chef for almost five years. Having gained experience at Balbirnie House, Alan decided it was the right time to move on and open his own place, The Restaurant at Cluny Bank in Firth, Scotland. After a couple of years Alan moved on with a stint working at City Inn, Glasgow as head chef before overseeing the kitchen at the award winning Gleneagles Hotel.

Our thoughts go out to Alan's wife Karen and son Leon at this sad time.
