Online food and drink magazine, The Taste has reported that chef Danni Barry will leave her role at Michael Deane’s EIPIC after three years to open her own restaurant.

The new venture will see the chef reopen Clenaghans restaurant in the village of Aghalle this November in partnership with Square Bistro’s Stevie and Cristina Higginson.

When the seventeenth-century former pub reopens it will be home to a casual eatery ‘where old meets new.’ Under Danni’s guidance the menu will be produce led with a strong focus on the bold flavours Danni has become known for.

Taking over from Danni will be chef Alex Green, formerly of the Michelin starred Cliff House.

According to the Taste, the Belfast Telegraph said that Michael Deane thanked chef Danni Barry “for her sterling contribution to Deanes EIPIC over the last four years and for

the seamless handover to our recently appointed new head chef at EIPIC, Alex Greene”.

Danni is one of an elite group of female chefs to be awarded a Michelin star in the UK and Ireland. She is only the second female chef to achieve a Michelin star in Ireland behind Myrtle Allen, head chef and co-owner of The Yeats Room at Ballymaloe House in County Cork.

Danni’s career began in 2003 working at the then Michelin starred Deanes in Ireland. After travelling around Europe Danni returned to the UK working for Simon Rogan at his Michelin starred restaurant, L’Enclume before being heading up the kitchen at Rogan & Co in Cartmel. Danni later left this role to return to Belfast where she took the helm of Michael Deane’s EIPIC which only yesterday (Monday, 2 October, 2017) retained its star in the Michelin Guide UK 2018 under Danni’s leadership.
