DJ BBQ and Chops are the high-energy duo behind Catertainment - a party with food at its heart.
Known for bringing epic eats and big beats to festivals across the UK, they’ve built a loyal following of fans who return year after year to dance, eat and soak up good vibes.
DJ BBQ, born Christian Stevenson, is an American-born, UK-based chef, author, and presenter with a global reputation for barbecue expertise. His career has spanned television, live events, and published cookbooks, and he is recognised for championing the art of cooking over fire.
Chops, a professionally trained chef with an extensive background in large-scale catering and live events, is known for his precision, creativity, and ability to engage audiences while delivering impressive food.
The Staff Canteen sat down with DJ BBQ to ask a few quick-fire questions:
You and Chops are known for "Catertainment" - how would you describe the magic you two bring to the fire?
"We love bringing out epic food and a high-energy party to any festival - Catertainment is just that: a party with food! We love seeing the confused looks on people’s faces until they get into the party. We have people come to festivals year on year to see us, and have watched some kids grow up. That’s what Catertainment is — bringing fun vibes to people, with food at the heart of
it."
What’s the secret sauce to making food and music come together so seamlessly?
"Energy, man - high-quality ingredients, high-quality music and our unique crew energy. All of our team are professional chefs or DJs, and we are all passionate about food and music. Good food, good music and good times!"
How did the Chops & DJ BBQ partnership first come about?
"We met on a TV show called BBQ Champ. Chops was the home ec and I was the fire and smoke consultant/presenter. We hit it off straight away and decided to join forces to create the ultimate foodie/music party!"
Is there a dish you and DJ BBQ disagree on?
"I could eat tacos all day long - one of my favourite things to eat! Chops is not a huge lover of tacos; he gets sick of ’em."
You’ve played at a lot of festivals - what makes Big Feastival stand out?
"We have been doing Big Feastival for years now and love the quality of traders they have on site each year. We’ve made some amazing friends over the years and love that Big Feastival has the same ethos as us when it comes to food and music."
If you could cook for any artist or chef - dead or alive - who would it be and what would you make?
"Bowie or Hendrix."
DJ BBQ and Chops are set to take the Fire Stage at Big Feastival from August 22 - 24 in the Cotswolds.
