Endo Kazutoshi announces new pop-up after Rotunda fire

The Staff Canteen

Michelin-starred sushi chef Endo Kazutoshi has announced his next restaurant venture, confirming a five-month pop-up at private members’ club Annabel’s in Mayfair.

It follows his Michelin-starred restaurant Endo at the Rotunda closing last year, after it suffered fire damage.

The announcement, shared via Endo’s Instagram channel, marks the chef’s first confirmed return to service since the fire at the Helios building in White City in September.

Rather than reopening in the same format, Endo will now bring an intimate sushi counter experience to one of London’s most established private dining institutions.

A temporary return at Annabel’s

The project will trade officially as Endo, Upstairs at Annabel’s, though Endo has chosen to refer to the pop-up as Untitled, framing it as an emotional and reflective moment rather than a conventional opening.

The pop-up will launch on Thursday, February 20, and will run for a period of five months.

Service will be limited to just 10 seats per sitting, with two sittings per evening, operating Tuesday to Friday.

Endo will reunite with members of the original Rotunda team for the residency, working from a temporary home while longer-term plans remain undeclared.

Annabel’s, part of the Birley Clubs portfolio, is known for its discreet, high-end approach to hospitality.

Endo’s arrival places one of the UK’s most respected sushi chefs within a highly controlled, private setting, allowing him to focus on precision, pace and the direct relationship between chef and guest that defines traditional counter dining.

Endo on returning to service

Announcing the pop-up, Endo shared the following message on Instagram.

He wrote: “Dear friends, the time has come for us to prepare to stand in front of you once again.

“To everyone who has supported us, your words and your presence have given us the strength to look forward, again and again.

“I would like to share some news about an exciting pop-up that will be taking place, a special moment for us to gather with you once more.

“While its official name is Endo, Upstairs at Annabel’s, I have chosen to refer to this moment as Untitled. There are feelings here that cannot be easily put into words - gratitude to our guests, the desire to see you again and melancholy and longing for the time we lost.

“From February 20, for a period of five months, I am very happy to be able to hold this pop-up at Annabel’s Mayfair. With just 10 seats per sitting and two sittings er evening, available Tuesday to Friday.

“Reuniting with the Rotunda team in a temporary home, I am deeply grateful and very much looking forward to having a place where I can once again serve you the sushi that represents the essence of my work.

“Reservations open on Tuesday, January 20 at 9am for February and March bookings on our website (www.endoatrotunda.com) on a first-come, first-served basis.

“I sincerely look forward to seeing you. Endo.”

Fire at BBC building and Endo at the Rotunda restaurant

Context: life after the Rotunda fire

Endo at The Rotunda opened in 2019 on the eighth floor of the former BBC Television Centre and quickly became one of the UK’s most celebrated omakase destinations, earning a Michelin star in 2020.

Fortunately, no staff or guests were injured during the fire which led to its closure in 2025.

Born in Yokohama and a third-generation sushi chef, Endo is known for his disciplined edomae approach, prioritising seasonality, balance and minimal intervention.

The Annabel’s residency offers a rare opportunity to experience that cooking once again, while longer-term plans continue to take shape.
