The Gordon Ramsay Restaurant group is pursuing its ambitious expansion plan, promising to open 10 new restaurants across the UK by summer's end.

Announcing the news that the group would be hiring Leon's former CFO, Antony Perring, the three Michelin-starred chef said: “Despite all of the pandemic related challenges, we have to be optimistic and forward thinking and invest back into our amazing industry.

"We have an incredibly ambitious global growth strategy, and I’m delighted to have Antony on the team to help drive our future expansion plans."

The chef came under fire from within the industry when more than 500 staff members were laid-off from his restaurant group at the offset of the pandemic (and weren't subsequently rehired, as many others were, when the furlough scheme was announced).

However, as early as September 2020, he announced a 'billion dollar dining proposal,' which would include a 50-restaurant expansion across the UK within five years, 200 restaurants across Asia and the launch of the Gordon Ramsay Bread Street Kitchen concept.

The celebrity chef launched his street food venues in and around the capital this year - with Street Burger restaurants now open in Charing Cross, Kensington and in St Paul's, as well as an additional branch in Woking.

His upmarket burger venture, Gordon Ramsay Burger opened inside Harrods, and three Street Pizza sites were launched in the London boroughs of Camden, Southwark and Battersea.

Additionally, the chef is due to open one of his 'Gordon Ramsay Academy' cookery schools where the Tante Marie Culinary Academy used to be above the Woking Street Burger restaurant.

Commenting on his appointment, Antony Perring said: "I'm extremely excited to be joining the Gordon Ramsay Restaurants team as the sector emerges from lockdown.

"Our planned new restaurant openings will enable the business to accelerate its growth, boosting employment in the sector and advancing existing and new landlord relationships."
