Great British Menu 2023 chefs: John Hollywood, Northern Ireland Heat

John Hollywood, Freelance Development Chef, is one of four chefs competing for Northern Ireland region on Great British Menu 2023.

Series 18 of the competition starts on January 31 2023 on BBC Two at 8pm and will air for eight weeks.

John is going head to head with chefs Gemma Austin, Matt Jordan, Kerry Roper in a bid to represent Northern Ireland in the regional finals, and ultimately cook a dish at the final banquet.

This is John's first time competing in Great British Menu.

Biography

John Hollywood is a freelance development chef based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. 

Begining his career at Ormeau Road cafe Graffitti, John's has spent nearly twenty years working across an impressive range of kitchens.

Thanks John's extensive skill set, he helped to establish The Muddlers Club, which attained Michelin star before branching out into Asian cuisine and techniques in Yugo, and helped open up its sister restaurant Yugo East during the pandemic.

Leaving Belfast, John moved to Bangor where he became head chef at The Boat House. In this role he developed his own style, always using local ingredients.

Recently, John has decided to go out on his own, developing products for suppliers he has met and may possibly offer private dining in people homes in the future.
