Great British Menu 2023 chefs: Rory Welch, North East heat

Rory welch, head chef of Träkol, is one of four chefs competing for the north east on Great British Menu 2023.

Series 18 of the competition starts on January 31 2023 on BBC Two at 8pm and will air for eight weeks.

Rory is going head to head with chefs Gareth Bartram, Cal Byerley and Will Lockwood in a bid to represent the North East in the regional finals, and ultimately cook a dish at the final banquet. This is Rory's debut

on the programme.

Biography

Rory was crowned the 2017 North East Culinary and Trade Association (NECTA) Chef of the Year. His fledgling career took him to Jesmond Dene House, The Black Horse at Beamish and The Broad Chare before he joined the team at The Bridge Tavern. He is now head chef of Träkol in Newcastle.
