Three bone rack of lamb with Szechuan sauceLondon’s department store Harrods is launching a new modern Chinese restaurant, Chai Wu in January. Opening on 18th January 2015, the restaurant will be on the fifth floor of the luxury department store, and will accommodate 90 guests. The menu, which incorporates speciality and luxury ingredients, has been created by chef Bihu Xie, who specialises in Chinese cookery, and will be overseen by Ian Pengelley, Group Executive Chef, and one of the UK’s leading experts on Asian cuisine. Bruce Langlands, Food Director at Harrods, described the dishes served as “fresh and vibrant”, and said “the restaurant will provide customers with the best of Chinese cuisine in a theatrical yet elegant setting. A fantastic space for entertaining, Chai Wu will no doubt be one of the top dining destinations in London.” Starters include soups, dim sum and dishes such as Chilean sea-bass dumplings with gold leaf, and a Wagyu and black pepper puff. For mains, diners can choose between à la carte dishes or fresh meat, fish and vegetables grilled to order, such as poussin with spicy chilli-lime dressing. There are also signature plates and specialities such as Beijing duck, Alaskan king crab with soy glaze, and lotus root and lily bulb in a spicy toban sauce. The restaurant’s concept and interior design is inspired by the five elements of Chinese Internal Camera 01_221014philiosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal and water, and the interior integrates a blend of traditional and contemporary Chinese culture. A theatrical charcoal grill will sit in the centre of the restaurant, with a dining bar surrounding it, allowing diners a prime view of the chefs at work. The restaurant’s owner, Eddie Lim, said, “We’re really looking forward to welcoming customers to all that Chai Wu has to offer, and providing them with first-class service – as expected in Harrods," he said. "The food at Chai Wu will be exotic, colourful and incredibly tasty.” Head to www.chaiwu.co.uk for more information. Chai Wu opens on 18th January 2015 at Harrods department store London and reservations are open on 17th November.
