The Staff Canteen

Michael Caines' Cornish Harbourside Refuge restaurant and bar has ceased trading after opening in August 2020.

The Habourside Refuge restaurant has been closed since August 1st, with the restaurant recently confirming on social media that this would a permanent decision.

Initially, the restaurant had been temporarily closed during the preceding winter due to a combination of challenges including escalating fuel costs, staff shortages, and difficulties in sourcing ingredients.

The statement on the restaurant's social media said: "Due to the economic climate and the on-going challenges that are facing the hospitality industry as a whole it has been a difficult decision and with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to close," a statement on Harbourside Refuge's website said."

It added: "Thank you to all of our customers, suppliers and the community of Porthleven, we have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the quaint and historic harbourside. Our decision to close has not been taken lightly however we sincerely hope to see you again soon at one of the Michael Caines restaurants."

The Cove Restaurant and Bar in Maenporth, a sister property of the Harbourside Refuge, will continue to provide its offerings without interruption.

The legacy of Michael Caines' culinary endeavors extends beyond Porthleven, encompassing the revered Michelin-starred Lympstone Manor hotel and restaurant, as well as Mickey's Beach Bar and Restaurant, both of which are situated in Exmouth.
