Robbie Jameson has been appointed group executive chef of MAD Restaurant Group, the Soho-based operator behind Alta and Moi, building on a role that began this spring when he was named head chef of Alta.

The Scottish-born chef, previously head chef of Humo, will continue to run the kitchen at Alta, the northern Spanish-influenced restaurant in Kingly Court, while now also overseeing Moi on Wardour Street.

There, he will work alongside Moi head chef Gustavo Tavares and head sushi chef Lubo Haponik to direct the food across the main restaurant and the sushi counter downstairs. Cooking at both restaurants is centred on the wood-fired grill.

MAD Restaurant Group was founded by hospitality entrepreneur Artem Login. Alta and Moi both launched in the summer of 2025.

Artem said Robbie’s arrival will steer Moi’s food and atmosphere closer to Japanese izakaya culture, a style of dining built around relaxed drinking, sharing and socialising.

"The philosophy of Moi hasn’t changed; the cooking remains rooted in open-fire whilst drawing on Japanese influences and techniques," he said.

Tartare at Moi

Robbie’s new menu launched on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and pushes Moi towards a more informal, easy-going style of dining, with an expanded range of snacks, small bites and skewers alongside a weekly-changing selection of maki, temaki and nigiri.

Larger dishes from the grill include octopus skewers with gochujang sauce and lime, lamb belly with curry emulsion, agedashi tofu with leek, myoga and ginger, and Iberico pork tonkatsu. MOI’s wild mushroom rice pots stay on the menu, now joined by new versions built around 35-day aged short rib and Scottish lobster.

The restaurant’s standalone sushi counter on the lower ground floor continues to host omakase nights on Thursdays and Fridays, 11 courses for £95 per person.

Room 86: a new chapter for The Listening Room

Moi’s subterranean cocktail and hi-fi bar, formerly The Listening Room, has been renamed Room 86 as part of a wider relaunch this autumn.

The space keeps its focus on an intimate, music-led experience built around cocktails, sake and wine, but is introducing a new DJ programme structured around five distinct nights a week, Tuesday to Saturday, each with its own musical identity.

Tuesdays are dedicated to old school hip hop and experimental sounds, Wednesdays to funky house, and Thursdays to deep house, paired with a curated sake selection. Fridays and Saturdays are given over to groovy house.

Room 86 is accessible via its own entrance on Wardour Street, or directly through Moi for diners continuing their evening. Alongside the weekly line-up, the bar will run a wider programme of one-off events, among them guest DJ takeovers, artist showcases, creative workshops and cultural exhibitions, developed with external communities, creatives and brands.

Snacks from the Moi kitchen will be available to order throughout the night.

Artem said: "Room 86 is about creating a unique place in Soho for creative people to meet, listen to great music and be part of the community.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. We want to create the kind of night you’ll still be talking about the next morning.

“It’s not just about where you go. It’s about how a place makes you feel, the people you meet and the memories you take with you."

Between Robbie’s expanded remit and the Room 86 relaunch, MAD Restaurant Group is positioning Moi as a single evening destination in Soho, spanning restaurant, sushi counter and late-night bar.
