Spencer Metzger and Nathan Outlaw restaurants added to Michelin Guide

spencer metzger and nathan outlaw restaurants are among 22 added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland for september 2026.

Two of British cooking's best known names have had new openings recognised by the Michelin Guide, as inspectors confirmed 22 additions to the Great Britain and Ireland selection on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Spencer Metzger's Chez Rose in Mayfair and Nathan Outlaw's Outlaw's Bistro in Port Isaac both joined the guide this month, in a list dominated by London openings and top end dining pubs.

Spencer's French bistro joins the guide

Chez Rose opened in June 2026 in the former Little Social site on Pollen Street, with Spencer behind it and his business partner Jason Atherton backing the project.

Spencer has said the cooking takes its lead from the great French classics without setting out to be a traditional French bistro, with dishes such as orkney scallop with café de paris butter, grilled lobster with sauce chorron, aligot au morbier and crêpes suzette.

Spencer spent 12 years at The Ritz under executive chef John Williams MBE before joining Jason, with whom he launched Row on 45 in Dubai and Row on 5 in Mayfair, both of which hold two Michelin stars. He remains executive chef at Row on 5.

Speaking to The Staff Canteen ahead of opening, Spencer said: "We’re not in a position where we want to invest loads of money. It’s not about that. It’s about creating something that’s humble and genuine.

“It would be amazing if I could create a restaurant on a budget, without spending billions of pounds which you’re never going to get back.

“It’s got the bones of a great restaurant already, so let’s be clever about it.

“It’s not built for winning loads of accolades. It will hopefully achieve them by default and in its own way."

Nathan's new Port Isaac bistro recognised

Outlaw's Bistro is the successor to Outlaw's New Road, which Nathan Outlaw closed in March 2026 after deciding to step away from the fine dining format.

The ten table bistro opened in April 2026 inside Outlaw's Guest House, the nine bedroom property across the road that Nathan took on three years ago, with a shorter, lower priced menu. Michelin-starred Outlaw's Fish Kitchen continues to operate in the village.

Cornwall picked up a second entry in nearby Padstow, where PL28 Café also joined the selection. The family run café, which serves small plates and a tasting menu in the evenings, comes from former Seren Collection head chef Thomas Hine.

The three openings the inspectors singled out

Michelin gave full write ups to three of this month's additions.

AO by Daniel Rogan, Southampton. Daniel has run AO in previous guises, always in Southampton, and the name comes from the initials of his two children. Inspectors praised the inventive cooking in the moody black dining room, noting both his technical skill and his command of flavour.

Cradle, Kinbuck. The seven table fine dining room at Cromlix, the Michelin Key country house hotel owned by Sir Andy Murray, where executive head chef James Mearing runs a tasting menu built on Scottish produce and the kitchen garden.

Simpson's in the Strand, London. Jeremy King's revival of the 1828 institution, where inspectors flagged prawn cocktail, boiled ham and parsley sauce, spotted dick, and beef carved tableside every day.

The rest of the London additions

Elsewhere in the capital, Bar des Prés in Mayfair entered under Asian Influences, DakaDaka brought Eastern European cooking to the list, Dante Mayfair landed as Italian American and MRBL was listed for Meats and Grills.

Sushi Amamoto also joined. The Mayfair omakase counter took over the site of the Michelin starred Taku earlier this year in partnership with the three Michelin starred Sushi Amamoto in Fukuoka.

The dining pubs continued a strong year in the guide, with Hop Pole Inn in Limpley Stoke, Nevill Arms in Medbourne, The Black Horse in Amberley from the Gladwin brothers, The Rose and Crown in Thorney and The White Horse Easton in Suffolk all added, alongside The Smithfield in Leeds.

Also new to the selection were Canvas in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Capparelli at the Mill in Belfast, Restaurant Kensington in Lynton, The Cedar Restaurant in Daventry and Whirlybird in Edinburgh. There were no additions in Wales or the Republic of Ireland this month.

Being added to the Michelin Guide is not the same as receiving a star or a Bib Gourmand, which are announced at the annual ceremony. It does confirm that inspectors have visited and rated the restaurant worthy of the selection, and it is the pool from which the awards are drawn.
