On Monday 28th April, London’s Guildhall will play host to the elite of the gastronomic world with a glittering ceremony held to announce and celebrate The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. The industry is holding its breath to see whether Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca will retain the coveted top spot for the second year in a row after becoming The S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant in 2013. As well as hosting the event, the UK already has plenty to celebrate after Fergus Henderson was announced as the recipient of The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month. On awards night the Brits will be on the edge of their seats to find out whether Brett Graham’s The Ledbury, as well as Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, both in London, will maintain their positions in the upper echelons of the list. Asia is eager to see how many restaurants it will boast on the world ranking and what position Bangkok restaurant Nahm ranks after securing the top spot at this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards, which took place in Singapore in February. Brazil has started its party early with the announcement of Helena Rizzo, of Mani in São Paulo, as the Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef. The country is eager to see whether fellow Sao Paulo restaurant D.O.M. will remain in the top five, while other restaurants from across Latin America will also be looking to increase their standing on the list this year. Guests on the night will be treated to an exquisite Champagne bar courtesy of Veuve Clicquot, premium wines from Concha y Toro, and Zacapa Rum in both cocktail and neat form. As part of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards, Bompas & Parr will work with Diners Club International to create a glowing ice and jelly installation in the shape of a fantasy London landscape. The signature B&P jellyscape will include St. Paul's and Buckingham Palace, with other London landmarks hand-carved in ice. The display is will be the focal point of the Diners Club International space, exclusive financial services sponsor of World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards. Gathering at the Guildhall on Monday will be the ‘A list’ of the gastronomic world with chefs from 47 of the 50 restaurants on the list flying in from the four corners of the earth to be there.
