We feature some of the best chefs in the world on The Staff Canteen but where would they be without their kitchen porter?
We thought it was time to celebrate the unsung heroes of the kitchen in a new monthly feature, KP of the Month, and this month it is Hywel Loveluck who currently works at Coast Restaurant in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire which has two rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide.
Hywel was nominated by head chef Will Holland who said: "I nominated Hywel for KP of the month as he is a legend...full stop! He is our honorary grandad! We love him. He's so hardworking, polite and respectful. The only answer he gives is yes. He's always upbeat, happy and great for morale in the kitchen. He can run rings around KP's half his age. You know Hywel's at work when you hear "cooking on gas" or "rock on Tommy" coming out of the pot wash! He might like to sneak to the pub for a cheeky beer after a dinner shift and tell his wife he'd finished late too!"

Working with Will Holland

The best. He is always there to help.
As a KP, what’s the most annoying thing chefs do in the kitchen?
Sing. They should definitely stick to cooking!
Is there anything chefs could do to make your life easier?
Not drop small equipment and cutlery down the waste disposal unit. And stop asking me for blue centre feed rolls in the middle of service (Josh)!

Nothing. I really enjoy my job. I spent a lot of my life doing a job because I had to and now I've got a job I want to do.
And do you get to try the food? That must be a perk!
Yes.
Do you have a favourite dish you have tried at the restaurant?
Spoilt for choice. I'm actually bringing my wife to Coast for lunch soon.
Would you encourage other chefs to nominate and celebrate their KPs?
