Cooking up a Storm at Eastleigh College’s Charity Gala Dinner

Two of our Stock People, Business Development Manager - Gary Kilminster and Business Development Chef - Robin Dudley, attended Eastleigh College on Thursday 12th May to assist catering students in cooking up a 5 course meal.

They were joined by Olly Rouse, Luke Matthews, Will Torrent and Ruth Hansom as part of a charity gala dinner held at the College’s training restaurant, East Avenue. The professional chefs worked alongside Level 1, 2 and 3 Catering students to create the dishes for the evening menu. Dishes included; Asian pork belly canapés, a quail’s egg starter and a lamb rump main. Following this delicious meal a fundraising raffle and silent auction took place to raise money for two charities: Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Epilepsy Research UK.

On the event Gary Kilminster said ‘After working at Bournemouth and Poole College for many years as a Chef Lecturer, I thoroughly enjoy seeing motivated catering students learn and develop into successful young chefs and helping out at Eastleigh has been no different. The students have lots of potential and have done a great job this evening.’

Level 3 student Amber James has already worked with a handful of professional chefs through numerous projects with Eastleigh College. She said, “It really helps working with the chefs. I’ve learnt loads today, including how to properly plate up a dish and all the different components you need to think about.”

The restaurant re-launched in September 2015 as part of Eastleigh College’s £12 million redevelopment project, and has held many events including afternoon teas and cocktails nights since its opening.

An enjoyable evening was had by both diners and chefs, with all catering students both learning and demonstrating their culinary abilities.
