Glorious Twelfth

The game season is one of the most important events in the British culinary calendar; so as you know the busiest day in the shooting season is upon us – Glorious Twelfth.

This Friday will see shooting enthusiasts partake in the shooting of large amounts of grouse across Great Britain and Northern Island.

With the first shots fired on 12th August – no other seasonal ingredient arrives with quite the bang that grouse does. Whether your taste is traditional or modern there is plenty of ways to cook the considered ‘King’ of feathered game, over the season.

Grouse can be cooked the traditional way served with bread sauce, browned breadcrumbs and great tasting gravy (check out our No1 Beef Gravy as a fantastic match for your grouse), however there are modern recipe ventures that can also be explored.

With game season upon be sure to put this popular bird on your menu and allow diners to enjoy the mild gamey taste of roasted grouse accompanied with a red cabbage puree, celeriac and blackberry sauce for a perfect seasonal dish.

The Stock People aim to highlight all seasonal produce throughout the year and this August our Seasonal British Hero is of course ‘Grouse.’ Discover our British Seasonal Calendar for further inspiration.
