Million Pound Menu winners to reside at Investor’s Restaurant

Today, twice Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar announced that stars of BBC Two show Million Pound Menu, husband and wife team Rupert and Marita, will be opening the Bubble& Café Bar at his Amersham restaurant Hawkyns on Monday 25th February 2019.

Whilst the 2 AA Rosette Hawkyns restaurant will remain offering Pan-Indian Cuisine, the fun, laid-back residency will takeover the bar and will offer a menu featuring an array of favourites from the duo’s bubble and squeak inspired foodie offering.

Diners can expect a range of dishes starting at £5 per plate including Bubble& Classic: the traditional bubble & squeak with soft poached free-range egg, smoked streaky bacon and hollandaise sauce to Bubble& Pork Belly with slow roast pork belly, cajun bean stew, green chilli salsa verde and crackling. In the evening guests can expect to see Rump Steak on the menu and Sunday’s wouldn’t be the same without Bubble& Full English or Roast Beef. For dessert there are tempting treats such as Sticky Toffee Baked Alaska with sticky toffee pudding, sticky toffee ice cream, meringue, toffee sauce and spiced oranges.

As a key investor on Million Pound Menu, Kochhar went to see Bubble& in action at their pop-up restaurant in Manchester. He was impressed with what he saw and their modern take on an English classic, bubble and squeak. Following their winning performance, he confirmed he would invest in the venture. The Bubble& Café Bar is the couple’s first residency supported by Kochhar.

Atul Kochhar commented, “It’s really fantastic to see Rupert and Marita in the kitchen, they are incredibly passionate about the food they create, and they’ve developed a fantastic concept that really works – a modern version of bubble and squeak. I’m delighted to be supporting this couple and I’m looking forward to our continued collaboration.”

Bubble& was created by Rupert and Marita in 2013.

Rupert spotted a gap in the market while working at a gastropub as head chef; bubble and squeak was a big seller but is known traditionally as a leftover dish. He believed bubble and squeak could be as versatile as pizza and pasta and proceeded to give up his job and open a food stall.

In 2014 Rupert’s food won two Great Taste Awards and he’s not looked back since. From markets in London and Portsmouth, to catering for parties, corporate events and weddings, Bubble& is going from strength to strength.

Bubble& Café Bar at Hawkyns will be open from 11am to 10pm daily.
