This year, we’re joining the global Slow Food network in the #menuforchange campaign with a very special challenge of #50MileMeal that’ll celebrate the food on our doorstep. And address a vital topic.
The food system is one of the leading sources of greenhouse gas emissions, while local agriculture, biodiversity and landscape are often some of the first victims of climate change.
Our countryside looks as it does because of food and farming, and when we choose to buy something from our local area, we not only help sustain those landscape, but we also keep jobs, skills, the local post office, and other services too.
Our challenge to you is to sell one dish using ingredients from within 50 miles of where you are based, as a special or as a permanent menu item, for a minimum of one service a week, for the whole of October.
If you’re on social media, please take a picture of your meal or ingredient and post it with the #50MileMeal hashtag. (If there’s room, please add #menuforchange too, please.) and we will repost a selection every day.
