With Coeliac Awareness Week (11th – 17th May 2015) just around the corner Aviko is encouraging operators to meet the demand for gluten-free menu options with its new coeliac friendly recipe cards and point-of-sale materials.
Working with respected chef and representative of the Craft Guild of Chefs Daniel Ayton, Aviko’s range of gluten-free recipes – available to download free at www.aviko.co.uk/downloads/recipes – include Indian-inspired Aloo Palak, Braised Lamb Shank with Bubble and Squeak, Cider Battered Fish and Chips and Ham Hock and Potato Wedges Terrine.
Mohammed Essa, Aviko General Manager, explains: “Providing gluten-free dishes can be quite daunting for operators as getting it wrong can have serious side effects but with almost 60% of people wanting to see more options available on menus*, it’s important for caterers to maximise this opportunity. Our recipes not only make it easy to offer coeliac friendly choices but also taste delicious, meaning they appeal to those with intolerances and mainstream customers alike.”
With recent research, commissioned by Aviko, revealing that 73% of people don’t feel the out-of-home sector does enough to cater for gluten intolerances and 21% of people are willing to pay more for a gluten-free meal, there is a clear profit opportunity for operators to cater for the 1 in every 100 people diagnosed with coeliac disease**. Aviko’s most popular products, including its Premium Fries range, are produced in a dedicated gluten-free factory – something not all potato product suppliers can guarantee – meaning operators can be confident with their side dishes when communicating their gluten-free menu to customers.
Mohammed continues: “Our research highlighted the fact that 68% of people don’t feel gluten-free options are clear enough on menus so, as well as the recipe cards, we’re supporting caterers during Coeliac Awareness Week and beyond with free point-of-sale materials. The posters and tent cards will help caterers shout about their gluten-free menu options and encourage diners to try our range of sides that, although gluten-free, don’t compromise on taste or quality.”
Aviko’s range of free POS is available to download at www.aviko.co.uk/downloads/pos. The potato products supplier has also created a handy infographic highlighting the key findings of the recent research and the profit opportunities available.
Aviko’s range of gluten-free sides includes Premium Fries (Superlong, Supercrunch and Sweet Potato Fries), Wedges (Skin On, Skin Off, Crinkle, Tex Mex, Garlic & Herb and Mega), Mashed Potato, Hash Browns, Gratins and Mini Gratins, as well as Roast, Diced, Sauté and Jacket Potatoes.
Dedicated to foodservice and one of the biggest potato processors in the world, Aviko offers a range of chilled and frozen potato specialities made by chefs, for chefs.
