Bocuse d’Or UK Academy announces latest industry giants to support team UK

The Bocuse d’Or UK Academy has announced the latest industry giants to lend their support to Team UK. In its bid to put a British chef on the podium, the organisation is reaching out to the UK’s most respected figures and is delighted to name An-dré Garrett, Diego Masciaga, Hrishikesh Desai, Lisa Goodwin-Allen and Matt Abé as the lat-est to join the cause.

André Garrett is executive chef at Corinthia Hotel London, overseeing the Northall Restau-rant and competed in the Bocuse d’Or in 2007 when he finished in a respectable tenth position. At the time he was head chef at Galvins at Windows in London and had to fit all his preparation in his spare time. André was supported by commis chef Ad-am Smith, who was then working at The Ritz and is now executive chef at Coworth Park.

Diego Masciaga is the renowned former director and general manager of The Waterside Inn in Bray. Awarded the Cavaliere Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (the equivalent of a knighthood) for his services to the hospitality and catering industry, Diego was also the winner of the Cateys Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Hrishikesh Desai, executive chef at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, where he secured a Michelin star within two years of taking over the kitchen. He won the Roux Scholarship in 2009 and won the Craft Guild of Chefs Chef of the Year award in 2010. Hrishikesh has a personal reason for his involvement, having graduated from Institut Paul Bocuse and received a degree signed by Chef Paul Bocuse himself.

Lisa Goodwin-Allen is executive chef at the Michelin-starred Northcote in Lancashire and recent winner of The Hotel Cateys Hotel Chef of the Year under 250 covers.

Matt Abé is chef de cuisine at the three Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. Matt thrives under pressure and is one of several UK-based chefs to offer candidate Ian Musgrave the opportunity to work in their kitchens.

Bocuse d’Or UK ambassadors can support in a range of ways, from sharing their support in interviews and social media to participating in fundraising events.

Andreas Antona, chair of Bocuse d’Or UK Academy says: “The Bocuse d’Or Team is growing and we are delighted and hugely grateful to have such an impressive set of individuals giv-ing us their backing. With André, Hrishikesh, Lisa and Matt we now have some of the best chef talent in the country and Diego is a hospitality legend whose influence and passion will help us in our bid to give the contest the industry support it deserves.”
