Next generation help out at Cornwall Tourism Awards

Sponsored by St Austell Brewery, the 11th annual awards saw students from the Travel & Tourism and Catering & Hospitality faculties at Cornwall College Camborne help welcome guests and serve drinks and canapés, whilst a team of catering students were also involved in preparing the sumptuous dinner served before the awards presentation.
With over 200 guests in attendance, representing the cream of the tourism industry in Cornwall, the students were kept extremely busy throughout the evening, and impressed a number of prominent industry figures, prompting offers of future collaborations and a vote of thanks from James Staughton, Managing Director of St Austell Brewery.
Robin Barker, from Services For Tourism, the company that organises the Cornwall Tourism Awards each year, said: “For an event like this, it’s all about quality and excellence, and it’s lovely to involve the next generation of personnel and give them a taste of the industry. Everything works so well when you involve students in these events, and tonight has been no exception, so I take every opportunity to work with them and help boost their skills and experience.”
Steven Cole, 19 from Falmouth and currently enrolled on the Travel & Tourism Extended Diploma at Cornwall College Camborne, said: “I’ve really enjoyed tonight and what I’ve been doing. It’s definitely something I want to do in the future. I’ve never been to an event like this before, so it’s added a whole new dimension to my experience at college!”
Nicola Martin, 19 from Truro, is currently studying the Food & Beverage Service Supervision VRQ Level 3 at the Camborne campus. Nicola said: “I’ve worked at a few events like this before but each one is different. I was really looking forward to tonight’s event though, because I’ve never been to this one! I really enjoy working at these, and it’s definitely something I want to do in the future.”
Dave Linnell, Principal of Cornwall College, said: “This was a great opportunity for our students to get involved in such a high profile industry event, and I’m extremely proud of the level of professionalism they exhibited throughout. They were fantastic ambassadors for the College and really showcased exactly what we do. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved.”
