Farm Africa supports Ethiopia's Green Legacy Campaign

Members of international aid agency Farm Africa put on their gloves and masks to take part in Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Campaign in the Oromia Region.

Teams planted local tree nurseries across five hectares of land in the town of Mojo, and 26,950 tree seedlings in Galorape and Abine Garmama.

The campaign took place on Wednesday 29 July in a national movement to protect Ethiopia’s landscape and diverse fauna.

This year the Green Legacy Campaign set the ambitious target to plant 200 million tree seedlings across Ethiopia within 12 hours. Farm Africa’s contribution will help the region make a meaningful impact towards the country's national green growth initiative to combat deforestation and changing climates.

The government has set an annual target to plant five billion indigenous tree seedlings. Farm Africa was excited to be involved in this important campaign and planted tree nurseries as part of three of its projects: REDD+, SHARE and Central Rift Valley Landscape Management.

These projects work with farmers and partners to protect Ethiopia’s natural resources while boosting the livelihoods of agricultural businesses and smallholder farmers.
